Week beginning: 5th July, 2026.
‘Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.’ (Matthew 11:29)
The theme of rejoicing and praising the Lord is prominent throughout the readings: that the King, humble in victory, brings peace to His worldwide empire (Zechariah); that God is compassionate, kind and loving, has freed us from the slavery of sin and supports those in need (Psalm); that we have life through God’s Spirit living in us (Romans); that God has chosen to reveal His mysteries to us, mere children (Matthew).
Paul encourages us to turn this rejoicing into a spiritual, not material, experience, shying away from material pleasures and ambitions. If we are to truly share in Jesus’ life and learn from Him, we need to let the power of His Eucharist transform us.
As the priest says in the Prayer over the Offerings, we should be purified through the sacrifice of the Eucharist and bring our conduct closer to the life of heaven.
Go forth in peace to love and serve the Lord.
