Week beginning: 3rd May, 2026.

‘Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.’ (John 14:12)

Sometimes we can think we know someone, because we have been together for a long time, yet there are still things we do not understand about them. So it is with Jesus’ disciples; although they have followed him, they are still confused when he talks to them about knowing the way to where He is going.

Like the disciples, we are asked to make a great ‘leap of faith’: believe in God; believe in Jesus. This is the basis of the Creed, which we say together at Mass, that we believe in God: and in His Son, Jesus, who died and rose again to give us life to the full; and in the Holy Spirit, who gives us understanding to discern these mysteries and the will of God.

As we come to know Jesus through the Holy Scriptures, we also come to realise that we must live our lives in the same way as He did, with faith, hope, love, charity and healing as our guiding principles. In other words, if we are to follow Jesus to eternal life, we must practice what he preaches.

Will what we will do this week be the ‘works that Jesus does’?
