Week beginning: 2nd November, 2025
Can you imagine how you would feel if you lived to see your child be canonised as a saint, and actually attended the ceremony of canonisation? The initial grief for the loss of your child would be surpassed by pride, honour and gratitude for recognition of a life lived for God.
In September Pope Leo canonised Carlo Acoutis, an ordinary 21st century teenager, who loved football and computers. Carlo died at the age of 15 shortly after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukaemia. Motivated by his love for the Blessed Sacrament, Carlo used his computer skills to research and develop a website dedicated to Eucharistic miracles, spreading the wonder of the Word of God made flesh in the sacrament of Holy Communion among his friends through modern technology and media.
St Carlo is an inspiration, not only for the young, but for us all, showing that we can all use whatever we are good at in the service of God and, in this way, aspire to become saints. Carlo was an example to the world.
To what extent am I an example to others? Do I use my gifts to serve God and make Him known? Does what I do reflect my love for the Blessed Sacrament?
