Week beginning: 17th August, 2025

Hearing Jesus say that He has come not to bring peace but division seems contradictory to the Gospel message of love and unity. Surely, Jesus has come to unite the human race under the fatherhood of God. He wants all to be saved and to be one. The meaning of the Gospel is not that Jesus deliberately wants to create division, but quite the opposite; unfortunately, not everyone will accept the Gospel and it is the different reactions to the Gospel message which will cause division.

Although families may be divided in their view of religion, they should not be divided in charity and love for one another. Jesus’ zeal for the Kingdom is not diminished; He knows that He can only bring lasting peace through the sacrifice of the Cross and that the pain and suffering will be worth it.

Like Jesus, let us accept the will of God, so that the Cross of Jesus will fill our minds with love, peace and joy, and gentleness, kindness and forgiveness will flow from our minds into our words and actions.
